Self-Serve 3D Printing

Unleash your inner 3D maker by using our MakerBot Replicator 5th Generation 3D Printer yourself! To use our 3D printer, you’ll need:

  • A valid FFPLTC card
  • To be 14 years of age or older
  • To successfully complete our 3D Printer Orientation Workshop

Using our 3D Printers

Once you complete our 3D Printer Orientation Workshop, drop by the FFPLTC to get started using the 3D printer. Reservations are available for up to 3 hours, on a first-come first-served basis.

Download an object from thingiverse.com, or design your own through using a web browser at tinkercad.com. Our printers support both .STL and .OBJ files. Our printers use PLA Filament, which is plastic made from plant based materials, like corn. A wide variety of colours are available.

Printing Costs

Printing costs $2.00 per hour. Estimates of print times are generated by MakerBot Print software. Final print times are generated by the 3D printer once the job is complete.

Quick Printing

Chosen from our Quick Print list, these 3D objects take less than 30 minutes to print and cost $2.00 each. A Quick Print can be requested by anyone (including those under the age of 14) and does not require the 3D Printing Orientation Workshop. To get a Quick Print, you’ll need to:

  • Visit staff at the FFPLTC and pick your object from our Quick Print list.
  • Pay for your object at the time of requesting.
  • Stay in the library while your object prints.
  • Show off your Quick Print to your family and friends!

Quick Print fulfillment is subject to 3D printer availability. Requests will only be taken in person.

3D Printing Workshops

Take our 3D Printing Orientation workshop to learn more about how to print. An active FFPLTC library card is required. Book a Tech Help appointment to attend a workshop

Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Parents must sign a MakerSpace agreement before their child can use any MakerSpace equipment.
